Same promoter involved in 2002 lawsuit

Michael Jackson has filed a lawsuit against concert promoter Marcel Avram to prevent arbitration over a disputed concert contract from 1999.
Court papers show Michael, and his company MJ Company, have sued Avram and his German based company for breach of contract as well as seeking a preliminary injunction preventing the promoter from proceeding with arbitration according to the Associated Press.

Michael famously testified in a lawsuit involving this contract in 2002 in which Avram seeked $21 million after accusing him of backing out two New Year concerts in 1999. A Santa Barbara County jury ruled that Michael had to pay $5.3 million in March 2003 and both parties then reached a settlement agreement.

However, Avram has since decided to move forward with arbitration despite the 2003 settlement agreeing the disputes were to be resolved in Superior Court.

An arbitration hearing has been scheduled for October 24th, and Michael's lawsuit filed yesterday is now seeking an injunction to prevent this.

    FURTHER LEGAL PROCCEDINGS...
Michael testified in London hotel two weeks ago

The latest lawsuit in the Marcel Avram case was not the only legal proceeding that has concerned Michael recently.
He apparently testified in a conference room of the London Dorchester Hotel on the 23rd September for a deposition regarding a lawsuit filed against him by his former producer Marc Schaffel.

The deposition took place in London, according to Roger Friedman of FOX News, because Michael did not want to return to Los Angeles from Bahrain. A Californian Judge allowed the questions to be asked in London at attorney's requests.

Schaffel has sued Michael for $4 million claiming he loaned him money and expensive items with the promise of reimbursement. He is also one of the men who was named as an un-indicted co-conspirator with Michael in his recent case against accusations of child abuse, of which he was of course vindicated.

During the eight-hour deposition Michael was represented by attorney Thomas Mesereau (pictured left) who of course also represented him during his recent acquittal.
